More child support ridiculousness

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The connection between child support and supporting a child is tenuous at best. We know that it has nothing to do with the cost of raising a child. Even for rich people who spend lavishly on their children, it costs about $26K per year on average for the 18 years it takes to raise a child. But that doesn't stop courts from awarding child support payments that dwarf that amount. It's more about rewarding golddigging women and/or punishing men. Here are three of the latest prominent examples:
  1. Chuck Liddell, mixed martial arts fighter, was ordered to pay $72K per year for child support.
  2. Charlie Sheen, everybody's favorite winner, will have his wages docked to the tune of $660K a year.
  3. Scarface, the rapper, is being held in jail for not paying child support.
And if that doesn't infuriate you enough, there are cases like this one of a woman who collects child support even though she doesn't live with the child. I'll let her mother explain:
My daughter, “Chloe,” receives child support for her son, “Logan,” who is 3. Chloe does not live with her son because she is not capable of taking care of him. She is an alcoholic who lives with her abusive boyfriend. My husband and I have raised Logan since birth. He lives with us. Since Chloe has legal custody, however, she receives the child support payments. Unfortunately, she spends most of the money on herself and her boyfriend.
